Pradeep Narwal Gave Patna Pirates A Deserving 31-28 Win Over Puneri Paltan
A scintillating performance in attack by the generally harmless looking Bajirao Hodage gave Patna Pirates a deserving 31-28 win over their tormentors Puneri Paltan in an action packed encounter at the NSCI Stadium. He received good support from the local boy Pardeep.
Parmod Narwal gave the Puneri Paltan a 2-point lead in the 6th minute, but it wasn’t long before the Patna Pirates restored parity through Pardeep’s raid three minutes later.
Patna Pirates edged Puneri Paltan to win the do-or-die encounter 31-28. The result also pushed the Puneri Paltan almost out of contention for the play-offs paving the way for the others. Patna Pirates finished with 41 points while Pune, left with 32 points with two matches left.
HT: Puneri Paltan 15-10 Patna Pirates
The teams trooped off for the break with Puneri Paltan trailing by 5 points. In between Puneri Paltan took two successful reviews. Those two referrals helped them get back Pardeep once and Kuldeep once.
Despite the best efforts of the team in orange, the Patna Pirates did not let their lead slip for the initial 8 minutes of the first half. However, they were helpless in front of Deepak, who single-handedly, made it a 3-point game with 8 minutes to go.
But Ajay and Deepak along with the Pune defense ran maverick .With three of their players revived the Pune were given a huge lifeline. That was in the second half ‘s 15 minutes of play. Even then the home team managed to go up from 22-12 to 27-24 when came the second big blunder of the match from them.
In a span of 8 minutes in the first half, Patna Pirates scored 15 points without conceding any and in the process, inflicted an all out on the Puneri Paltan. Pardeep scored 7 points in that match-turning period as the final scorecard read Patna Pirates 31-28 Puneri Paltan.
In the ultimate analysis the Patna Pirates defence was the deciding factor. Add to that the inability of the Pune attack barring Ajay and to some extent Deepak’s heroics in the end to complete the picture.
