Prokabaddi Season 5 : IPL and Football inspired schedule and format
Prokabaddi Season 5 has taken a huge turn among all the domestic leagues running in India by introducing 4 new teams bringing the total number of teams playing the league to 12.
The administrators of the league has also taken some interesting measures to ensure that the viewers are kept on their toes with excitement by introducing a new system inspired from IPL and Champions league football.
The league which gets underway on July 28th will see 138 matches being played over a period of 13 weeks.
The 12 teams will be slotted into two Zones; Zone A and Zone B with six teams in each Zone.
The teams will play each other thrice in their respective zones, resulting in 15 intra-zonal clashes for a team. Apart from this teams will also compete outside their zones. The inter-zonal segment will see each team from Zone A playing against each team from Zone B once, before every team is to play an extra match that will be determined by a random mid season draw held in the penultimate week.
Once the 22 match league stage is done, the top three teams from each zone will qualify for the Super Playoffs.
Super playoffs are inspired from popular franchisee based cricket league IPL which will unravel in a similar manner but with more teams.
There will be three qualifiers. In the first qualifier, the team which finishes second in Zone A will meet the third placed side from Zone B. In the second qualifier, Zone B’s second best against Zone A’s third placed team. In the third qualifier, top teams from Zone A and Zone B clashes and the winner advances to the final.
There will be two eliminator rounds, which will decide the second finalist.
Eliminator one will see winner of Qualifier 1 take on winner of Qualifier 2. Eliminator two will see loser of Qualifier 3 facing against winner of Eliminator one. The winner of Eliminator 2 joins the winner of Qualifier 3 in the finals.

Telugu Titans, Bengaluru Bulls, Patna pirates, Bengal Warriors, UP Yoddha, Tamil Thalaivas.
The Qualifiers will be played in Mumbai and the eliminator and the finals will be played in Chennai.
“For Season 5, our goal was to create a high impact tournament which evokes euphoric sentiment among fans for their favorite teams. Strong contenders will be seen clashing in the action packed three months of the league”, said PKL commissioner Anupam Goswami in Mumbai.
