Telugu Titans start home leg with narrow defeat to Patna Pirates
Patna Pirates’ super star Pardeep Narwal lead from the front as his side won 35-33 over hosts Telugu Titans at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad.
After ten days of spectacular action, the Kabaddi juggernaut hit the city of Hyderabad, its third destination. Despite of languishing at the bottom of the table the Telugu Titans were welcomed in style by their home crowd who turned up in huge numbers to cheer for their homeboy heroes along with the team’sbrand ambassador Rana Daggubati.
The first half was an incredible seesaw encounter, as both teams were all out once. It was the Patna Pirates who struck first as they defended well and opened up a 6-4 lead, before Telugu came with a ravaging raiding force of Rahul,Sandeep and Sukesh to get a 19-13 lead at the half-time.
Pardeep and Rajesh Mondal made their next raids count and reduced the lead. However, the duo of Rahul and Vinoth Kumar brought back the team to level terms with 10 minutes to go in the first half. The next few minutes saw both the teams playing defensively and taking risk only when it was a do-or-die raid, and Telugu edged the half with a 6-point lead as the scores were 19-13.
The Patna Pirates scored the first point of the second half to make it 19-14, but a spirited display by the Telugu team saw the margin increase but could not be reduced significantly as Pardeep scored points after points. In the last five minutes, Telugu relaxed a bit on their 5 point lead, which was foolish as Rajesh Mondal and Pardeep wrecked havoc and brought the lead for the Pirates I the last 2 minutes and it was impossible for the tItans to come back from that point of time.
It was a spirited effort from Sandeep Narwal to take his team so close but could not bring the smiles on the home team fans.
