Puneri Paltan who had put up a fighting display while qualifying for the semi-finals, finished the Pro Kabaddi League 4 on a satisfying note by beating Telugu Titans to clinch third spot today at Hyderabad. It was a perfectly scripted win by a 40-35 margin after trailing by two points with just about four minutes left. Their strategy was perfectly executed by the two stalwarts Deepak Hooda and Joginder Narwal but full credit to that man Deepak who came up with a flash raid that sent Rahul Chaudhary packing off the court. Rahul Chaudhary for long had been tormenting Puneri Paltan with his continuous raids.

The match was on an even keel from the beginning. Telugu had Nilesh tackled on his first raid and were followed with successful raids from Deepak and Nitin Tomar. The Telugu Titans picked their own points thanks to raids from Rahul Chaudhary and Nilesh Salunke. 4-3.
There was no Manjeet Chillar, no Ravinder Pahal or say a Sonu Narwal and yet they inflicted an all-out on the hosts within ten minutes. From 17-14 at half-time the Puneri Paltan side led by Joginder narwal had at one time a solid 27-24 lead, courtesy Deepak Hooda. The result took Puneri Paltan to maintain the 3rd place in Pro Kabaddi League. Telugu Titans get the fourth place.

For Telugu super raider Nilesh Salunke was a pale shadow of himself in the second half and had it not been for the heroics of Rahul who managed to keep his side up by at least two to three points till the equalizer from Puneri Paltan. Then came the vital rescue act from Deepak Hooda, which gave Puneri Paltan the all important lead in the final few minutes.

Puneri Paltan showed a lot of spirit in the absence of their captain Manjeet Chillar. It was Parmod Narwal who gave the finishing touches with an empty raid at the opposite end.

In the 25th minute, the Telugu Titans had managed to make it a 1-point game after brilliant defending from Sandeep and a successful raid from Rahul. Undeterred by the crowd’s unwavering support, Deepak and Ajay Thakur helped the Puneri Paltan increase their lead to 4.

Deepak scored a bonus and helped catch rival captain Rahul to set up the lead at 36-34. He further inflicted an all out in the last two minutes from which there was no return for the Titan. Joginder finished the match by getting rival raider Rupesh Tomar effecting a perfect double ankle-hold in the second last raid 40-35.
