Who will top the table in ProKabaddi Season 4 ?

The Pro Kabaddi Season 4 will have a totally different lineup for all the teams. Former teammates will play against each other and rivals will play together.

The Auction before the season has shaken things up a lot. Add the selection of services players into different teams, we really have a solid lineup for each team. The Auction has made it very difficult for the fans to choose their team. Every fan will have a dilemma whether to go with the team he loves most or the player he adores.

Let us see which the strongest teams are and who are likely to go into the semifinals of season 4.

The teams are classified as strong and weak based on their balance of players in all positions along with the strength of the substitute bench, past performances of players playing together, ability of the captain and some other quantitative aspects associated with the sport.

Predicting the top 4 teams was not an easy process, there was enough discussion and debate based on conclusive data from the previous season and the player performances.

Here are the top 4 teams based on strength on paper.

Puneri Paltan

What a recovery it was by Puneri Platan from being the bottom dwellers in the first two seasons to third position in season 3. They are ready to repeat their feat again this year or maybe better, get the title itself and  with the squad they have got, it is not impossible.

Let us see their squad strength, Ravinder Pahal as Right corner and Manjeet Chillar along with Joginder singh Narwal who played for BB in season 2 as left Corner . Their corners are strong and reliable but the performances of Pahal and Joginder will determine the fate of the defense of Puneri Paltan. Covers are Somvir Shekhar and Nitin Tomar (who can also raid).

Manjeet Chillar can also be used as cover if Joginder manages the left corner.

Their main raiders are Sonu Narwal , Ajay Thakur and Deepak Niwas Hooda. All three of them are capable of taking the team to victory single handedly. Along with them Manjeet and Nitin Tomar can also raid which makes Pune very versatile in most positions. Their bench is also strong with Parmod Narwal and Preetham Chillar ready to pounce on other teams.

Patna Pirates

Season 3 champions lost two of their three best players before Season 4 with Sandeep Narwal moving to Telugu Titans in the auctions and Rohit Kumar moving to Bengaluru Bulls. They don’t have their Cup-winning captain Manpreet Singh as well as he went unsold(which was a surprise!!) in the auctions. Still they have managed to build a team worthy of the title “champions”.

Their defense has the Iranian Powerhouse Fazel Atrachali in the left corner and Dharmaraj Cheralathan in the right corner and Hadi Oshtorak as the backup. They also bought the Warriors’ superhero Bajirao Hodage and have reinforced their covers along with Kuldeep Singh from Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Raiding has always been the strength of the Pirates, and it still remains their forte, and has got stronger with the addition of Surjeet Singh  from Services.

Raiding department will be led by the Dubki expert Pardeep Narwal and the do or die specialsit Rajesh Mondal.  Add to this the reserve bench with Vinoth Paulyas ,Mahesh Goud and Abolfazel Maghsoudlou. If Dharmaraj becomes the captain, we will have a formidable team worthy of title contention.

U Mumba

They lost their core team at the auctions. Vishal Mane, Mohit Chillar and Surender Nada joined different teams. But they have the experienced Rakesh Kumar and Jeeva Kumar holding their defense along with Services player Surjeet who is a one on one tackle specialist.

With Rishank  Devadiga leading the raiding department supported ably by Gurvinder Singh & Surendra Singh. Under the leadership of Anup Kumar, it won’t be a surprise if they reach the semifinals of Season 4.

Bengal Warriors & Telugu Titans

It is said that raiders win you matches, but Defenders win you tournaments. Bengal Warriors have been following this policy since PKL Season 1. They always were, are and will be a defensive wall. This season they have not only retained most of the players from season 3 where they finished fourth but they have also added enough raiding power and for the first time in 4 seasons warriors look a balanced team gettiing Nitin Madane and Surjeet Narwal to the team to support Jang Kun Lee who took the team to the Semifianls last year.

It is difficult to keep Telugu Titans off the title challenge as they have always been there in the top five. It is not different this time either.

With Jasmer Singh Gulia and Sandeep Narwal in the right side and Sandeep Dhull in the Left Corner ,their defense looks solid.

With Rahul Chaudhary at the helm, this ship fuelled by raiders like Sukesh Hegde and Nilesh Salunkhe and the Iranian Mohammed Maghsoudlou can really upset most of the teams on their voyage. In terms of sheer impact, Sandeep Narwal has been in a league of his own and created a zone of torture on the right corner. If Telugu  Titans benefits from his raiding as well, then they will be a formidable force to reckon.

Bengaluru Bulls

It’s quite often a combined effort that is required to keep a raider down and these combination tackles where the raiders get involved often prove vital in the outcome of a match. The reliance on the defense has increased and quite often controls the pace of the entire game as well.

Keeping this in mind Bengaluru Bulls went all out to get Mohit Chillar and Surendar Nada as their corners spending lion’s share of their Auction limit to get theese two players. They also got Rohit Kumar from the Services who was the MVP of the previous Season. But other than these three good players their raiding and defense looks mediocre at best. They have the potential to perform and an opportunity at redemption but only if their three star players perform miraculously.

Jaipur Pink Panthers and Dabang Delhi have the least interesting squad and even though they have a few great players it all depends on how they play as a team which can only be said after the first leg at Mumbai.
